Paul Brueggemeier was a public school music teacher for thirty-three years in the Spokane Public School system. He taught instrumental music at Sacajawea Junior High School from 1970 to 1981 where he developed a large comprehensive band program known for its musical excellence throughout the Northwestern United States. From 1981 to June of 2003, he directed the choral music program at Joel E. Ferris High School. The school earned the Spokane Arts Commission "Arts in Education" award in 1998 and the GRAMMY Award Signature School designation in 1999. The Choral Music Department earned the respected place as one of the finest choral music programs in the Northwest. In addition to earning Superior ratings at local festivals on a yearly basis, the choirs annually received Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards at Canadian National Choral Festival for many years. They traveled in Europe three times representing the United States in Austria, Germany, France and Great Britain. The choirs performed in such memorable venues as Coventry and Canterbury Cathedrals, Westminster Abby, Omaha Beach at Normandy, France, Notre Dame, Paris and the Frauen Kirche in Munich. The Ferris choirs were invited regularly to perform for the Music Educators National Conference and American Choral Directors Association at state and regional conventions. Ferris singers were featured performers with the Spokane Symphony numerous times and were annual State Finalists at the Washington State Music Solo and Ensemble Contest every year.

Paul was selected as the Spokane Public Schools Employee of the Year in 1978. He was honored as the Music Educator of the Year for Eastern Washington State in 1989. He received the Washington State Christa McAulliff Excellence in Education Award in 1998. He was inducted into the Washington Music Educators "Hall of Fame" in 2000. He is a highly sought-after adjudicator for choral festivals and solo and ensemble festivals in the northwestern United States and continues to be invited as guest conductor and clinician for honor choirs and bands throughout the United States.

Paul has conducted church choirs all his adult life both as a volunteer and a paid professional. He was organizer of the Lutheran Heritage Concert Choir and conducted it when the choir toured Germany in 1999. He is currently Chancel Choir Director at Central Lutheran Church in Spokane.

Paul and his wife, Sue have been married for 37 years and have three adult children, two of whom now teach music at Ferris High School.
