Concerts
The Idaho-Washington Concert Chorale typically performs about three concerts a season, which runs from early fall through late spring. Concert schedules can vary from year to year, but they are usually scheduled around major holidays. On occasion the Chamber Choir, a smaller, auditioned group of Chorale singers, may offer one or more additional concerts. Other performance opportunities may include Christmas Carol performances offered as a fundraising activity in the holidays, and the possibility of performing during the annual spring fundraising event.
Membership
The annual fee of $70 can be paid $35 per semester or all at once. This money partially covers costs of music purchase and rental. Scholarships may be available for those who may not be able to join the Chorale because the fees and/or dress would be a financial hardship. Music will be issued once the membership dues have been paid or a scholarship application has been received.
As a volunteer, not-for-profit organization, the IWCC is kept alive through members’ willingness to volunteer. Members can contribute in various ways, including serving as an officer, donating money, or helping with a committee’s mission. Committees include: Marketing, Advertising, Posters Up!, Riser Crew, Box Office, Technology, Finance and Investment.
The Chorale is not just about performance. We are a sociable group, so opportunities for social occasions and events arise frequently.
Rehearsals
Through the season rehearsals take place every Monday night, with occasional holiday breaks and one break after the Christmas concert.
Rehearsals are held at the Moscow High School Music Room on Mondays 7:30-9:30 (with an option of rehearsing until 10 pm). Members of the Chamber Choir convene for additional rehearsal time 6:30-7:25.
To kick-off rehearsal of a new performance, the Chorale also holds a one day retreat on a Saturday in August or September, and may hold ½ day retreats on Saturdays in January and/or April. These may be held in either the Palouse area or the L-C Valley.
Finally, one or two weeks prior to a performance, the Artistic and Music Director will schedule one or two dress rehearsals at the designated performance venue(s). Concert garb is not required at dress rehearsals. Dress rehearsals may be scheduled for a weekday evening or weekend during the day.
The Artistic and Music Director notifies the Chorale of his rehearsal schedule as we begin rehearsing for each concert. He has the right to make changes, however. Section Leaders also have the right to call rehearsals of their sections.
Absentee Policy
The absentee policy is at the discretion of the Artistic and Music Director. Generally, about two or three missed regular rehearsals are allowed, with one dress rehearsal counting as two misses. Absentee policy for Chamber Choir is more restrictive. The Artistic and Music Director prefers that, when a member auditions, he/she commits to performing for the entire season, although it is possible for a member to commit to a shorter segment of a performance season.
Dress
Singers are required to wear uniform attire.
For women, the garb is a floor-length, black, long sleeved dress made from a pattern we provide and from material and notions purchased from us. The material costs from $30-$50. IWCC knows of seamstresses willing to sew the dress for a reasonable charge, or the member can sew the dress herself. Black, comfortable, closed-toe shoes are the only other dress requirement. Jewelry and accessories are kept to a specified minimum.
Men are asked to wear a black Tuxedo with cummerbund, white Tuxedo shirt, black bow tie, and black shoes.
Auditions
Auditions are held prior to the rehearsal start date for each concert. They are announced in the local media and on our website. Contact Janice O’Toole at 509-229-3654 or otoole3@inlandnet.com to sign up.
